Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Political sentiments on social network is a trending activity whenever elections is near, users tweet about theirpreferred candidates or political parties and at times provide reasons for that. Also, political campaign is without doubt capital intensive because it amounts to huge figures when the expenditures are summed up. Therefore, to avoid such expenditures, political campaigns now place emphasis on Twitter to communicate, and connect with voters online. The detection of voter sentiment and its polarization is important because political strategists would love to know the Twittersphere’s aggregated sentiments in an instant. Twitter as a micro-blogging site is used as a data set collection source for this research, the obtained dataset which is the Obama vs McCain 2008 presidential debate is prepossessed and classified in order to find out the ability of data mining algorithms relating between political Twittersphere’s and real life politics.
