Design of a compact new shaped microstrip patch antenna for satellite application

Abstract

In this paper a single feed, new shaped, compact, high gain, microstrip patch antenna has presented. To reduce the resonant frequency three (3) triangular slots are launched at the three edges of the patch and small feed line has used another edge of the patch. The antenna has a condensed structure where dimension is about 9.5mm by 7.96mm by 1.905mm leading to good bandwidths covering 15.27 GHz to 15.72 GHz (7.76%). The return loss of -39.85dB is achieved at the resonant frequency 15.48 GHz. Across the operating band width, stable peak gain has observed which almost 6dB. This low profile nature and simple configuration of the proposed high gain antenna show the way to easy fabrication and make it appropriate for the application in wireless and satellite communication.
