Abstract

The curing behavior of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/polyetheramine system with precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) as a filler was studied. The PCC was produced from acetylene gas waste and using sucrose as promoter. The kinetic characteristics, such as degree of curing, curing rate and exothermic curve, were analyzed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The activation energy Ea was estimated by the Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods. The energies of the crosslinking process for system containing PCC are in the range of approximately 35 to 63 kJ/mol. The incorporation of PCC in the system boosted the curing process in terms of time. The activation energy increases whenever the PCC concentration increases to 5 wt. %. The PCC produced can be used as advanced plastic filler.
