Abstract

Reductions in vehicle vibration may contribute to improvements in overall vehicle ride includes prevent the mechanical failure due to fatigue. This paper explores the correlation between fatigue signal and vibration response when subjected to the variable amplitude loading. This comparative study was implemented using a new statistical-based method, called Integrated Kurtosis-based Algorithm for Z-notch filter Technique, (I-kaz). I-kaz method provides a three dimensional graphical representation of the measured signal frequency distribution and Ikaz coefficient to measure the degree of data scattering .An experiment has been performed on an automotive suspension system machine and this study was specifically focuses on coil spring. This study considered the test signal which excited based on two different velocities that are 60km/h and 120 km/h. The strain gauge of 2 mm size and accelerometer was mounted on the outer surfaces of the coil spring to measure the fatigue signal and vibration responses, respectively due to the loading. The time domain fatigue signal and vibration signal was then analysed using I-kaz method. The I-kaz coefficients for each signal of the different velocities were compared as to correlate the relationship. In conclusions, the fatigue signal was proportionally related to the vibration responses.
