    Abstract

    Linear relationships between the radius ratio ρ and the Szigeti charge e* for alkali halides are presented. The observation is explained on the basis of electronegativity and the compactness of crystal packing in the materials. Values of Szigeti charge which have not been reported hitherto can be determined via the present work.
