Abstract

The “I want to touch a dog” programme held in Petaling Java end of 2014 has caused a controversy among Malay Muslims in Malaysia current issues published by the contemporary mass media has stirred religious sensitivities and emotions of main Malays. This is due to its conflict and contradictions with the values and norms of the Malay culture. Therefore, this study was conducted to see the survival of thoughts among the Malays in lacing public acts and events that is forbidden in the context of touch, thought, moral and culture. Data was collected from the contemporary mass media. Sensational news content about the issue were examined and interpreted in accordance with the reality of Malay Muslims. Research shows strong solidarity of voices in the mass media from various community members such as Malay leaders, scholars, community leaders and members to curb this issue from spreading despite belonging to different political affiliations.
