Abstract

In this study, cellulose was modified with epoxy group via chemical modification to incorporate adhesion property. Toluenesulfonic acid (TSA) was used as the dopant and has been incorporated to polypyrrole (PPy) backbone via chemical oxidation reaction at various pH. Nanocomposites of cellulose-based adhesive and doped polypyrrole have been prepared via colloidal dispersion method in various compositions. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analysis CHNS, high frequency impedence spectroscopy were used to characterize the nanocomposites. Modified cellulose with good adhesion property was used as matrix for the nanocomposite. In this study, TSA-doped PPy synthesized at pH 1 gave highest doping level (25 %) and rod-like shape particles. The electrical and thermal conductivity obtained were 8.422 × 10-3 Scm-1 and 0.431 W/Mk, respectively. The prepared nanocomposite showed good of thermal conductivity therefore is potentially useful as coating material in small electronic devices.
