Comparative study of ultrasonic velocity in differently annealed and quenched GdBaSrCu3O7-δ superconductors

Abstract

Ultrasonic velocity at 5-10 MHz was measured between 80 K and 285 K in superconducting GdBaSrCu3O7-δ (Gd-1113). The elastic properties of low-temperature annealed Gd-1113 (Tc,onset ∼ 82 K) and high-temperature annealed Gd-1113 (Tc,onset ∼ 82 K) are dependent on the oxygen content. However, the dependence of the low-temperature annealed Gd-1113 on oxygen content is larger compared to the high-temperature annealed Gd-1113 with a step-like anomaly indicating a pronounced lattice hardening observed around 245 K. Such anomaly was not observed in the high-temperature annealed Gd-1113 and quenched Gd-1113. The elastic anomaly was explained in terms of possible oxygen ordering in the materials.
