Community service as platform for environmental ethics in citra education

Abstract

CITRA competency education consists of ethics and professionalism based learning that able to instil positive attribute in the students through the implementation of community outreach activities. It aims to develop the efficiency, accountability, responsibility, positive attitude and the ability to carry out duties with integrity and trust. Noble personality and be liable to the community and themselves are crucial traits that must exist in someone who will become engineers. Semester 1, Session 2016/2017 CITRA students from the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, UKM has been involved in three community outreach programs related to environmental ethic. The programs are Green Mosque, Zero Waste Cafeteria and Recycling program. Students involved have given positive feedback in forming values in themselves. This study found that the learning outcome of values of responsibility to the community scored the highest selection by students for all three programs. Thus, this study proves that accountability towards the public is able to be enhanced through the activities structured.
