Characterization of the optical power confinement in a simple chirofiber

Abstract

A general analytical characterization is made of the confinement of optical power in a simple chirofiber with the core and the cladding sections having different chirality admittance values. It is observed that the presence of chirality in the core/cladding sections ultimately reduces the confinement of power, and a letter power confinement is achieved with the decrease in the value of the core chirality admittance. The cases of meridional and skew modes are discussed, and it is found that skew modes transmit much higher amount of power than the meridional modes in the lower and intermediate values of the propagation constants, and this difference in the amount of power transmission increases with the increase in the core size of the chirofiber. The power confinement factor is, in general, of a fluctuating kind of characteristics, which decreases with the increase in the core diameter.
