Calculate the real total float for the activities in a project

Abstract

Problem statement: The resources constrained scheduling attempts to reschedule the project in order to suit a number of resource limits. Therefore, major projects management software packages such as Primavera Project Management version 6.1 (P6.1), Primavera Suretrak and Microsoft Project provide functions to treat numerous calendars and resources constrained. However, the basic theories of treatment of numerous calendars have not been disclosed to public, so users of this software packages simply assume without clear knowledge that the time data generated by it is accurate. Approach: This research proposes a step by step procedure of New Approaches for Scheduling Construction Project Software (NASCPS) to consider both original technological relationships and resource constrained links with single or numerous calendars. NASCPS has been developed using Visual C++ and Visual Basic technique. Results: NSACPS can identify real total float for activity and correct critical paths considering both original technological relationships and resource constrained links, making late start and late finish times more meaningful. Finally, this system makes a schedule more realistic, recognizes other activity schedule in the given schedule and provides a stable schedule with progress updates. Conclusion: This study should be of considerable benefit to the construction industry and academics because it details and advances the theory for scheduling with numerous calendars which is real scheduling in practice.
