Building energy index (BEI) in large scale hospital: Case study of Malaysia

Abstract

The study conducted is to identify building energy index (BEI) in a large scale educational hospital in tropical climate in Malaysia. The built up area of 247000 m.sq. In order to calculate BEI, the total energy consumption for different source of energy was calculated. The calculated BEI for HUKM is 245 kwh/m2. Electricity is the main source energy that is around 75% of total energy consumption. Electricity usage for each zone was assessed also it is found that electricity using for chillers is more than 40 % of total electricity consumption.
