    Abstract

The object of this paper is to examine the buckling behaviour of plate girder webs. In the case of straight plate girders extensive studies have been carried out and, recommendations incorporated in the modern design codes. However, no detailed information is available in respect of composite plate girders, horizontally curved plate girders and tapered plate girders. Experimental and finite element investigations carried out in the recent past have provided some insight into the behaviour of these girders. Results obtained from experimental and finite element studies are presented herein and the results reviewed in detail.
