Abstract

We have measured the Brillouin spectrum of liquid xenon along the coexistence curve from the triple point to within 13 deg. of the critical point. Within the limits of experimental error, there is no dispersion in the sound velocity in the frequency range 1 MHz to 3.25 GHz. The ratio of the bulk viscosity to the shear viscosity is equal to (0.80±0.10) at the triple point in agreement with corresponding states predictions.
