Assessment of Palm Oil Fruit Bunch Maturity based on Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy Technique

Abstract

This work demonstrates the non-destructive method to estimate the maturity of the palm oil fruit bunch, based on the reflective spectroscopy technique. Different samples of palm oil seeds were investigated by measuring the diffuse reflectance of each sample. The results show that we can distinguish the maturity of the fruit bunch by observing the revolution of specular reflectance spectrum obtained from the seeds. Having that information, a simple algorithm to distinguish the ripeness of the palm oil fruit bunch was developed.
