Abstract

Academic texts contains information framework that the authors want to convey to the students. This information framework forms the structure of the texts. Thus, students who read the texts should be familiar with the structure of texts in order to help them deepen their understanding of the texts. This study aimed to identify the structures of the economic texts that were used by students who took Economics subject. The topic chosen as a model for texts structure analysis was Perfect Competition. The design of this study was a content analysis which analyzed the texts structure of every unit and inter units of Perfect Competition. The findings show that there are four types of texts structure unit, namely; description, listing, cause and effect, and sequence. While texts structure relationship between units consists of description, cause and effect, pre and post knowledge, and sequence. The implication of this study is that students who read Economics texts should identify the types of texts structure to help them understand the content of Economics texts.
