Analysis and mapping of linear features around Alor Star, Peninsular Malaysia, using Landsat MSS imagery.

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Linear features are an informal term to describe objects in terms of their geometry without any genetic or structural implications. Linear features analysed in this paper are cultural features such as roads, railways, embankments, canals and cultivation boundaries. All these are well expressed on Landsat MSS imagery because they run parallel and are close to each other. They thus emphasize and reinforce the lines. The flat topography of the area, raised nature of the roads and railways, mono-cultivation of padi with straight boundaries and linear settlements are all important factors in making these linear features mappable. -from Author
