Abstract

Fabrication and characterization of an ultraviolet sensing and acetone vapour detection by using Al-doped ZnO coated fiber optic at room temperature is reported. 1 at.% of Al is prepared by sol gel method and act as a modified cladding that coated around etched fiber optic. Al doped ZnO has a hexagonal wurtzite structure by analysed the XRD spectra. I-V curves reveal an ohmic line and improvement in electrical conductivity when the samples are illuminated by ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 365 nm. The power output is changes depend on the interaction between light propagation, coated fiber and the analyte. The power ratio increased abruptly under UV illumination and suitable to be a stable and repeatable ultraviolet detector as it has fast response time and acceptable recovery time. For acetone detection, power output reduced as the magnitude absorption is higher than the air. It has good response time but it takes longer time to recover r to original value.
