Advantages of using blogs in language learning at technical school

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of using blog in language learning among polytechnic students and to find out students' reaction and feedbacks towards blogging. 42 students from Polytechnic Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam have been chosen as the respondents. The instrument of this study is a set of questionnaire taken and adapted from the questionnaire used by Pinkman in 2005. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 11.5. Descriptive analysis in terms of frequency is used to analyze the students' perceptions towards the usage of blog in language learning. Results showed that students do agree that there are advantages to use blog in language learning classroom, especially in interacting with other classmates and ability to post their thoughts in the blog. They also have positive reactions and feedbacks in using blog and agreed that blogging can improve writing skills, help them learn and use new vocabulary as well as get them to think in English.
