A short review on alkaline solid polymer electrolyte based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as polymer electrolyte for electrochemical devices applications

Abstract

Alkaline solid polymer electrolyte membrane based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) has been identified as a promising material due to its wide application for the development of electrochemical devices. PVA is semi-crystalline polymers that can easily prepared, high dielectric strength, excellent hydrophilic membrane, good film-forming and biodegradability. Advantages of polymer membrane system are the flexible design help to narrow the interval between electrodes that may lead to increase the capacity, high reliability of impact and vibration and prevent leakage. This short review highlights on the applications of PVA-KOH polymer electrolytes membrane as an ionic conductor and further discuss about membrane characterization specifically in X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
