A revisit to the propagation through conducting helix loaded dielectric elliptic optical waveguides

Abstract

The paper emphasizes the propagation behavior of dielectric optical waveguides with elliptical cross-section with the introduction of conducting helical windings at the core-clad interface. Helix pitch angle plays the determining role to control the wave propagation. For the sake of simplicity, two extreme values of pitch angle, namely, 0° and 90°, are taken into account, and studies are made of the propagation of power as dependent on the allowed range of the propagation constants of the guide. The corresponding plots are made in terms of power confinement factors in the core as well as the clad sections considering lower mode indices, and their characteristics are emphasized.
