Abstract

Construction industry plays an important role in the development of economy and socio-economy of a country. This industry is hazardous and has been contributing to severe injuries and fatalities around the world. There are many OSH accidents that can be related to construction industry but there is a few that really need proper attention due to their frequency of occurrences and severity. Fall is a major OSH issue that contributed to high fatalities at construction sites. Factors contributing to these OSH accidents in construction industry have also been studied and four main factors have been emphasized (human, worksite, organisation and management, external). Construction industry in Malaysia has been found to be hazardous due to number of fatal accidents at the workplace. Major OSH accidents in housing construction industry are similar to construction industry in general. Housing construction industry varies in terms of the size of projects and companies. It has been suspected that the smaller companies in housing construction industry have higher risk to OSH issues. Therefore, this study will be the basis that will be applied in understanding the scenario of managing OSH in housing construction industry as a whole.
